Ode to Iota Beta

  • Back in the fall of seventy-three,
    A colony formed at VWC,
A dozen young men set out on a mission
To form a fraternity and land a decision

From a national frat to take up their cause
And charter this group to guide them with laws
Based upon values as old and as grand
As love, truth and honor to test of time stand

Across old Virginia where the hills rose on high,
The Legion of Honor, borne at old VMI,
Became Sigma Nu and spread ‘cross the land:
This Brotherhood called to lend them a hand…

And so it began the Charter would find
At VWC -the first of its kind-
To bring all to bear what’s good about Greek,
    And answer the call these brothers did seek;

Through the years hence, it ebbed and it flowed-
This Sigma Nu Chapter ‘til one day was stowed
But just like its flower- a five-petalled rose,
Blossomed one day, resolved not to close

And so to the men for whom this is written
Must do all that is just, and all that seems fittin’
To bring the White Star back to VWC-
And make sure it shines, eternally.
